Nanako

By participating in the WCC, I thought that I could look at issues in the world that I would not normally be aware of, and disseminate innovative ideas from the perspective of young people.

I am always considering how to live in a more environmentally friendly manner such as reducing food waste and bringing my own eco-bag.

Motohiro

I decided to participate in this WCC because I would like to think mode deeply about and propose solutions to problems in the world by cooperating with the other members of our team.
I major in renewable energy and thus am interested in the environment.

Tomohide

I actively try to learn more about the environmental problems by watching documentaries on TV and keeping up with the news. I like to think about these problems from various perspectives in order to come up with innovative ways to solve them at the  individual level.

By making an opportunity to think about the SDGs, I wanted to look at the world's problems, so I participated. Through discussions with colleagues from all over the faculty, I was able to come into contact with various ways of thinking.

How did we come up with this idea for a Global Fabric?

At first we focused on the garbage problem and brainstormed different ways to reduce the amount of garbage in the world. However,  we didn’t come up with an innovative idea to solve this problem, so we changed focus completely. Nanako, one of the teammates, found an article describing the negative effect that the fashion industry has on the environment.

For example, the fashion industry consumes 7600 litter of water and emit 10% of global carbon to make a typical pair of jeans in a factory.* We saw this as an environment problem which is often ignored by people and overlooked in a media.
